It was a very busy time in New Britain this past week, as the Rock Cats had a 7 game home stand. I clocked in over 50 hours this week alone! There wasn't much different about the games, just the same usual promotions I helped out with. In the office, I helped decorate with one of our themed nights called "Christmas In July". We hosted a night like that to mark the halfway mark until Christmas! For the occasion, the interns organized for Santa Claus himself to make an appearance at New Britain Stadium. All of the interns wore reindeer headgear, and we made sure to have every promotion themed for Christmas. The promotion I was in charge of was the milk and cookie challenge, where two children compete to see who can eat their milk and cookies the fastest. However, as fun as the night was for the employees, I believe the Rock Cats could have done a better job of promoting it to their fans. Many came up to us and asked what all the decorations were for and what was going on. But I think they saw that mistake and they will be sure to promote it more efficiently for next year.
However, the most exciting moment this weekend was when one of my favorite Rock Cats, Kennys Vargas, got brought up to the Minnesota Twins! Not only did he get brought up, but in his first game he played he got an RBI double! I'm very happy that such a nice guy and great player got brought up to the professionals. They grow up so fast!
