I don’t believe I could have asked for a better internship experience with the New Britain Rock Cats: I was able to work in both the office and during the game days and got the full experience. There is so much that I learned from Tiffin that I was able to apply to my internship, and there are many things I will take from my internship and use in the real world. Everyone in the office was helpful and eager to help us learn the ropes of the business of sports. The employees of the Rock Cats really made the internship as fun and productive as it was.
Through my internship, I learned that marketing is one of my strongest aspects when it comes to the business of sports. I can deal with working in sales and do a decent job, but it isn’t one of my stronger suits. What really drove me with the sales calls I made was my competitive nature I have from growing up playing sports. Whenever Derek labeled a project an “intern contest”, I always tried my best to win it. However, I always felt comfortable with whatever the Rock Cats applied me to.
I would like to thank Derek Sharp for being the rock that the interns needed when making their way through this internship. Derek taught me how to keep my cool in pressure situations with his laid back California-style and how to make sales calls to potential customers. Other members of the Rock Cat family who made the internship experience remarkable is Tim Restall, Amanda Goldsmith and Brianna Bruneau for always challenging me to do my best. All in all, working for the New Britain Rock Cats this past summer was an extraordinary experience, and one that I will never forget.
